This is an Off-Center Struck Lincoln Memorial Penny. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Lincoln and the reverse depicts the Lincoln Memorial. An Off-Center Struck error coin occurs when a blank, as it is fed into the press, lands in the collar improperly. When this happens, only part of the blank is between the upper and lower dies. When the dies strike the blank, only that part is struck with the design. Normally, error coins are caught through the usual quality control procedures but, occasionally, some of the mistakes get by the inspectors and enter the normal channels of circulation. This unique piece would make an exciting addition to any collection.
